Teacher Friends, I Need Your Advice

Is it better to get your Masters Degree before acquiring teaching experience or after? Am I more likely to be hired if I have my Masters in Multicultural Educaiton with or without teaching experience? Does it matter? What would your hiring administrator say?

  1. It totally depends on your area. In Buffalo, they said NOT to get your Master's right away - there was a HUGE pool of teachers (at least 5 colleges w/ teacher programs), and schools were likely to hire the person with no experience who would cost them the least amount of money. My cousin lives in a different area, and had no problem getting a job with her master's and no experience.

If it were me, I'd probably plan on going PT for my master's. Apply for teaching jobs, and see what happens. If no job, switch to full time school.

    I'm praying for you guys!!!!

Jeff (my husband) is an Elementary teacher here in Wellsville. He thinks that it doesn't matter if you have your Masters or not - he thinks that it all depends on how you interview/your personality, etc. He said, if they want you- they'll get you. (besides, they all know eventually all teachers get their masters)

Just an idea - jeff did his masters online, through Walden University. It was a great program.
